New NorthStar Support

NorthStar Public Affairs, one of Canada’s fastest-growing government relations firms, is seeking a highly organized and proactive individual to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on ensuring processes run smoothly, deadlines are met, and teams are focused and aligned to deliver exceptional results for our valued clients.

The successful candidate will serve as a central coordinator, or “air traffic controller,” overseeing and managing day-to-day activities across the firm’s partners, teams, and client files. This position requires excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills, paired with a strong understanding of federal politics and public policy.

This role is a hybrid position for candidates based in Ottawa/Gatineau, but we are also willing to consider candidates working remote from other locations in Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Oversight: Coordinate and streamline day-to-day activities across the firm, ensuring tasks are prioritized, workflows are clear, and deadlines are consistently met.
  • Project Management: Develop and maintain work plans, schedules, and action items to ensure seamless execution of client deliverables and internal priorities.
  • Partner Support: Serve as the primary organizational support for NorthStar’s partners by keeping them on track, managing their commitments, and identifying any gaps in execution.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Track and analyze government agendas, legislative activity, and media coverage across client sectors; provide clear and actionable updates to the team.
  • Strategic Deliverables: Draft and review high-quality materials including proposals, briefing notes, presentations, reports, and client communications.
  • Client Coordination: Ensure timely and strategic execution of client deliverables, maintain proactive client communication, and follow up on action items.
  • Internal Communication and Accountability: Facilitate regular check-ins with the partners and team to ensure alignment, accountability, and strategic focus.
  • Team Collaboration: Work across all levels of the team to manage multiple work streams and help drive the firm’s growth through effective coordination and organization.
  • Stakeholder Engagement Support: Assist in preparing for meetings, engagements, and presentations with government officials, staff, and other stakeholders.

What Makes an Ideal Candidate

  • Completion of post-secondary education in political science, public policy, political management, communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a government, public affairs, operations management, or client delivery role.
  • Proven experience as a project manager or operations professional who excels at organizing people and processes.
  • A proactive problem-solver with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to keep busy teams focused and on track.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (French is a significant asset).
  • Familiarity with Canadian politics, government structures, and public policy.
  • A highly motivated self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively as a team player.
  • Experience with tools and technologies that support project management, task tracking, and monitoring activities.
